All Med Pro was delighted to receive an invitation to the Annual Oral Health Conference hosted by BSDHT in the charming city of Bournemouth this year. Elise, Jodie, and Emily enjoyed engaging with delegates and catching up with the BSDHT team, one of our valued partners. Despite the chilly temperatures, we were fortunate to experience sunny weather by the sea while proudly serving as BSDHT’s exclusive dental indemnity provider.
Friday evening concluded with a well-deserved glass of bubbly during the drink’s reception—a perfect way to unwind after a long day and an excellent opportunity for networking. The hosts added a unique touch to the atmosphere with caricatures being drawn of exhibitors and delegates, and the surprise of singing waiters launching into song added a delightful twist, making it a memorable end to the first day of the show. Here are some of our takeaways from the BSHDT conference.
After speaking to many of the Dental Hygienists and Therapists at the show, it came to our attention that many weren’t aware of the change in dental indemnity provider exclusive to the BSDHT. All Med Pro has been proud to be in partnership with the BSDHT for around a year and a half now, with the aim of addressing high indemnity costs for its members alongside providing personalised, efficient, and specialist support.
As well as a competitive annual premium the key features of our bespoke Dental Indemnity cover exclusive to the BSDHT are:
Contract Certain Insurance Cover
Claims Occurrence Cover
15% Premium Discounts
Dento-Legal Advice and Representation
Up to £10,000,000 Indemnity Limit
Nil Policy Excess
Regulatory Legal and Dento-Legal Support
£25,000 Regulatory Cover
The previous provider for BSDHT dental indemnity offered a claims-made product, which is why we would like to highlight our policies are both Contract Certain and a Claims Occurrence. Many membership-based organisations operate a discretionary-based product whereby instead of providing legally binding contracts that guarantee indemnity, they rely on discretionary powers to determine whether a member’s claim should be paid out. In other words, they have the discretion to accept or deny claims based on their own internal policies and guidelines. While this flexibility may sound attractive, it can lead to uncertainty and potential pitfalls for dental professionals.
What does this mean?
An occurrence-based policy provides indemnity for treatments provided during that policy period. If an incident took place during the policy period, the insured will be covered irrespective of when the claim is made – which could be many years into the future.
A claims-made policy provides coverage for claims received during a specified period – which is usually the duration of the policy. Beyond that, the cover ends. To maintain cover for potential new claims the policy will need to be renewed for as long as any potential new claims might be raised – the period for which is usually likely to be dictated by the Statutes of Limitations.
